CAAC works on Arts Festival

“Stand Up and Be Counted,” will be the theme of as day when artists from all over the area are invited to share their talents. The event will be co-sponsored by CAAC, The City of Cameron and the Saddle Club.

The Cameron Area Arts Council (CAAC) met last week to continue plans for an all-inclusive festival scheduled for October 12.

“Stand Up and Be Counted,” will be the theme of as day when artists from all over the area are invited to share their talents. The event will be co-sponsored by CAAC, The City of Cameron and the Saddle Club.

The description of the event is “a Talent Celebration.”  Project Coordinator Gina Reed says “our goal is to have as many people in as many areas of the arts participate as possible.  Could we get as many as 2,000?  I think there may be as many as 2,000 people within driving distance of Cameron who are some kind of artist, musician, actor, dancer, writer, and so on.  Wouldn’t it be great to have them all in town for a day of the arts?

The event will be held in McCorkle Park and the downtown area of Cameron on Saturday, October 12, 2019, from 10 am to 6 pm.

The Old School is co-sponsoring the event by organizing the vendor booths.  Anyone who wants to sell their artwork may contact Denise Maddex 816-632-6063 to reserve a place in McCorkle Park for $20 or $30 with electricity.  Those who want to display only will be able to set up for free in another location to be announced.  We are asking that only handmade items by the local individual be displayed or sold.  There will be performances all day in the Price Pavilion with the schedule being announced as soon as all the performers are selected.  If you would like to perform during the day, please call Barbara Drager at 816-632-7955.

“We will have a membership/fundraising drive as soon as we get the membership cards,” Reed said. “We are asking $10 per year donation to the Cameron Area Arts Council to support our mission of promoting the arts in the Cameron area.  We have a goal of $3,100 which will go to print ads, flyers, radio promotion, local news magazine ads, and a paid website.  We have a free website now at https://myartswebsite.wixsite.com/caac.  It is our goal to upgrade to a paid website that is more accessible and has more pages for events.
