**CURRENT UPDATE**
To: The Residents of the City of Cameron
This is my now weekly COVID-19 update for the community. First, we would ask for everyone’s patience as we begin to open things up gradually.
The requirements for opening of barbershops, nail salons, spas, gyms, fitness centers and dine-in restaurants, as per Order 20-03 remain unchanged. Because there are occupancy rules, some places are experiencing longer waiting lines than previously, so again we ask that you be patient and remember this is for the safety and health of employees and customers.
Two new things that will start up again on Monday, May 18th are curbside recycling pick-up and an extension of open burning. Concerning open burning, R & W is not able to pick up yard waste for the foreseeable future. Consequently, we will extend the open burning season to Sunday, May 31st, and a burn permit will be required after this date. Please notify the Police Department at (816) 632-6521 of your burning plans.
The number of confirmed cases in our four-county area remains low with only 24 reported cases so far and only 4 remaining active. We remain very fortunate in this but do not want to move too quickly or risk public health. “The largest component of preventing the spread of this illness has nothing to do with government intervention.
It is a matter of personal fortitude and responsibility. It is maintaining social distancing in public. It is covering your nose and mouth to reduce the number of aerosolized respiratory droplets emitted when in proximity to others. It is staying home when you are sick. It is considering that your actions have the potential to impact people around us, and having the wherewithal and determination to reduce the risk we present to those around us, and ultimately, to those of us who are at highest risk of having a poor outcome if we contract this illness.”
