COVID-19 Update from the Mayor (06/16/20)

The Mayor's informational updates regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

June 16, 2020

**CURRENT UPDATE**

To: The Residents of the City of Cameron

Governor Parson announced that Missouri will begin Phase 2 of the “Show Me Strong Recovery Plan” starting today.  This announcement therefore removes the mandatory restrictions that were in place as a result of the State’s May 28th Order which expired at midnight last night.

The Governor’s announcement, however, states that, “We must remember that COVID-19 is not gone,” and it goes on to say that, “It is still extremely important for everyone to continue social distancing.  Be proactive.  Avoid large, congested crowds, and take extra precautions to protect yourself.”

The follow-on letter from the Clinton County Health Department, Public Business Guidance- COVID-19, reemphasized this.  It adds, “that COVIDE-19 continues to present significant risk to the public.”  Please see the June 16th Guidance, which is attached here.

I therefore want to reiterate here what Clinton County and the State say.

I also want to specifically add that we want the Cameron restaurants here to be positioned for success as they have been largely shut down but while we are lifting mandatory restrictions, I want to encourage restaurants to continue practice social distancing.  This might also include perhaps placing tables outside. The City will be quick and liberal in granting temporary access permission to help restaurants that would like to expand their dining areas in this way.

Curbside recycling is still on hold and I will let you know as soon as we can begin that again.

As the Governor has said we have learned and accomplished so much since March and now we all know how to do this.  It is now up to us to take responsibility for our own actions and how our actions may affect others.  Due to the highly contagious nature of COVID-19, we ask you to refer to the Clinton County Guidance and remember an outbreak in our community would not only harm our residents but could deter people from coming to Cameron to do business.

I want to personally and sincerely thank all of our community for working hard to keep everyone safe.   As always, please contact us at City Hall if you have any questions or concerns (816) 632-2177.

Sincerely,

Dennis Clark, Mayor
