COVID-19 Update from the Mayor (07/01/20)

The Mayor's informational updates regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

July 1, 2020

**CURRENT UPDATE**

To: The Residents of the City of Cameron

With the 4th of July holiday fast approaching, I want to give the residents of the City of Cameron some precautionary information.  First, the 4th of July activities will go on as planned.  However, everyone should be aware that COVID-19 cases are also increasing, both nationally and in our four-county area.  To be specific, we have had 57 confirmed cases in our four-county area with 6 active cases currently in Clinton County with numerous people currently quarantined.

Since COVID-19 is more contagious than the standard flu, I want to remind everyone that individuals who show no signs of having the virus can spread it to others and impact the health of others and our business community.

Therefore, I strongly encourage that everyone take precautionary measures during our 4th of July activities.  These include:

  • Wear a mask in public.
  • Social distance when around people you don’t reside with.
  • If you are sick, stay home, and if you have COVID-19 symptoms, or known exposure, get tested.
  • Wash your hands often, and use hand sanitizer when you can’t wash your hands.

Healthcare professionals also recommend that individuals at high risk for respiratory complications along with their immediate families consider staying at home or taking extraordinary precautions.

In order to give more information directly from the Clinton County Health Department, I have attached their report issued today.  Please be sure to read this information.

These are guidelines set by the Clinton County Health Department and I strongly urge everyone to follow these guidelines to the maximin extent possible, we have been fortunate in that we have had no deaths in our four-county area and we all want to keep it that way.

I want to thank everyone for their support and efforts as we continue to fight this long-term battle against COVID-19.  Our community has shown great strength during these trying times.   As always, please contact City Hall if you have any questions or concerns (816) 632-2177.

Please have a great 4th of July and be safe.

Sincerely,

Dennis M. Clark, Mayor
