Lady Dragons send four to state

KEARNEY - Cameron Lady Dragon Wrestling Team lightweight Celest Greer, 120-pounder Christina Herring, 187-pounder Hollie Hedgpeth and heavyweight Jessica Tanguay will compete for a state title after qualifying at Saturday’s district tournament.

With Missouri having only one class for girls wrestling, Greer, Herring, Hedgpeth and Tanguay will each compete for a chance to stand among the Show-Me State’s best grapplers with the opening round of the state tournament set for Thursday, February 20th.

“Last year, I didn’t make it by one match and it hurt my self-esteem so much. To almost win districts this year feels so much better,” said Herring, who qualified for her first career state appearance. “… We worked so much harder this year than we did last year. Last year, we were separated so much from the boys. The coaches made it a priority this year to treat us the same as the boys. We worked on the same conditioning and it definitely brought us to the top.”
