Christmas

Children wait in wide-eyed anticipation of Christmas and the excitement of Christmas morning following a visit from Santa.

Christmas lights are everywhere. There is the spectacular display in McCorkle Park, colorful lawn displays, Christmas trees in windows all across the town. Christmas music is in the air.

A jolly Santa arrived in the annual Christmas parade in his bright red suit, large black belt, and flowing white beard. The smiles and laughter of the little ones brings joy to every heart. Santa is at the heart of their holiday season.

This is also a season of anticipation for Christians across the world. It is a season when they celebrate the birth of Christ. It is said that Christ comes to us in three ways: In the flesh at Bethlehem, in our hearts daily, and in glory at the end of time.

In this age of commercialism we sometimes lose sight of the meaning of Christmas. The word itself is derived from the word “Christ” and the word “Mass”. For Christians, this is the time that hope entered the world. It is also a time when we long for the Second Coming, which He promised. This is a reason for joy.
