City Employees Recognized for Outstanding Qualities

“Glenda has been an employee of the City of Cameron since 1975…43 years.  It doesn’t get more loyal and dependable than that.

Glenda Atkinson, Utility Billing Clerk, and Amy McVicker, Administrative Assistant, were recognized for their exemplary service at the City of Cameron’s Annual Employee Banquet held at the Elk’s Lodge on December 1.

Glenda received the Jay Riley Award. Jay Riley was a Water/Sewer Department employee who was well respected for his attitude, initiative and dependability.  These three characteristics are the cornerstones for employees being nominated for this award.  Jay was the first recipient of this award and it was presented posthumously to his wife in 1999 following his tragic and untimely death in a sewer collapse.  Each year since then, employees nominate their fellow co-workers who demonstrate positive attitude, initiative and dependability. The nominations are then sent to the City Manager for the final decision. The recipient of this award receives a paid day off and $300. According to City Clerk Blades, “Glenda has been an employee of the City of Cameron since 1975…43 years.  It doesn’t get more loyal and dependable than that.  Glenda is always willing to help out other staff members to get a job done.  Her knowledge and history of all thing’s utilities within the City of Cameron is unprecedented. Technology has changed greatly since Glenda’s first days and she has adapted admirably.  I often have difficulty with technology shifts myself, so I am impressed with the way she has graduated from manual utility billing to AMR (automated meter readings) with barely a hitch in her giddy-up.  I’m proud to have worked with her for the years I have and gladly nominate Glenda Atkinson for the Jay Riley Public Service Award.”

Amy was the recipient of the Safety Award. The nominations for this award are made by department heads and presented to the Employee Committee for selection.  Employee’s eligible for the safety award must use safe work traits, encourage co-workers to do the same, and not have had a workers’ compensation claim in the previous 12 months.  The recipient receives one day off work and $200.00.
