TextCaster Emergency Alerts

Emergency services now has another tool at their disposal to keep the Cameron community safe and informed. TextCaster, a permission-based messaging system, went live this week. The system sends notifications via email or text to residents that have signed up to receive these messages.

To sign up for Text Caster visit www.cameronmo.com click on the TextCaster logo under the search box. Enter your name, preferred method of contact (email, text, or both) and opt in to the alerts you wish to receive. At this time there are four alerts to choose from: Cameron Emergency Alerts, Emergency Snow Route Activation Alerts, Severe Thunderstorm/Tornado Alerts – Clinton County, and Severe Thunderstorm/Tornado Alerts – DeKalb County.

According to Police Chief Bashor opting into both counties could cause you to receive duplicate notifications if you live within city limits but he wanted rural residents to be able to receive relevant alerts as well and distinguishing those alerts by county was the best way to do so. If people opt in to both and decide later that they only want one or the other they need simply to call in to the Police station and they can adjust their opt in preferences.
