KC Comets land in Cameron for camp
A pair of professional soccer players with the Kansas City Comets dropped by Cameron to give area kids a few tips.
Forward Leo Gibson and defender John Sosa will work with members of the Cameron Dragons Soccer Club throughout the week, teaching the fundemantals of soccer.
“It’s actually fun. We started [Monday] and the kids still have energy and they’re doing really well,” Gibson said. “We’re all having a wonderful time. It’s just the basic stuff - how to pass, how to dribble. Tomorrow we’ll teach them shooting. It’s just really teaching the basics and helping the coaches see it from there.”
The camp also featured a few Cameron High School soccer players under new coach Jason Welch.
“I brought [John Sosa] up a few years ago and everybody loved it so we brought him back each year after that,” Welch said. “... These guys are a good bunch of guys with a great personality, who translate their skill sets to the kids so they learn it and understand it.”
