Backyard BBQ Bash Benefit
3rd Street Fusion hosted their annual BBQ Bash on the town strip on Saturday, June 15th, starting at 5:30 p.m. However, a huge line formed thirty minutes before the event started with hungry Cameron residents. The BBQ Bash is an annual fundraiser, every year 3rd Street Fusion selects two organizations to give back to or support. This year the fundraiser was for the Cameron Food Pantry and Cameron Main Street.
There were five competitive teams this year: Rub Some Butts: Kevin Krentz, Lincoln Krentz, Skylar Onnen, and Mark Manuell. Out of Retirement BBQ: Ryan and Jeff Murphy. T.O.P.S BBQ: Jeff Peoples. Freedom Smokers: Tyler Krentz, and Jamie Orr. and Seeing Red: Kevin and Amy Moore, Bill and LA Akins, and Travis Kearns. The contest involved five categories: poultry, ribs, brisket, pork, and a specialty item of the participant’s choice. As the meat competitions took place, each judge was able to vote for whose food was best by taking a single piece of blue paper, and putting it into the bucket in front of the station who they selected to be the best. The judges were Becky Curtis, Gina Reed-Hibler, Schila Frazer, Robert Quick, Elise Quick, Tracy Filley, and Gwen Forsythe.
Linda Krentz explains, “We had volunteers from Cameron Food Pantry, Cameron Main Street, Cornerstone Church, The Historic Preservation Society, River of Life Pastor Dave Nixdorf, and the DJ- KD Sounds.”
“It’s just amazing how the people of Cameron support our Fundraisers and causes. It makes me happy to see how many people showed up to help this year. The helpers this year were just amazing.
