Budget hot topic at City Council meeting

 

It was a nearly full room at the City Council meeting on Monday August 15. The subject that seemed to be on the mind of most in the room, was the discussion of the city budget. the first public participation portion of the evening, John Feighert IV, son of Councilman Feighert, said he has been on a few ride alongs with city police and wanted to talk about how city projects fund.  He feels the city could use fund to improve the safety and security of the city police. He proposed the council cut out some of the city project fund to redirect it to the police department. Saying the city needs to focus on needs and wants with money. Feighert said "We need good police officers that are willing to put down their lives to protect us. People talk about how nice and friendly all the police officers are here in Cameron, we should give them a reason to want to stay."
