Cameron Municipal Band concludes historic season
McCorkle Park was saturated with music lovers on August 4th as they took in the last Municipal Band Concert of the summer, and celebrated the culmination of 150 years of musical talent and excellence.
Whether it was “Riding The Rails”, enjoying music from the 40s, taking in some jazz, sharing Olympic fever, or enjoying American pop culture with Disney's “Frozen”, the ten concert summer season offered something for everyone.
Highlights of the season were numerous and showcased the depth of talent from the band's clinicians, directors, educators, and professional conductors. Colonel Thomas H. Palmatier, 9th Leader and Commander of the United States Army Band 'Pershing's Own' (ret), made a special guest appearance during the season. Audiences enjoyed outstanding solo performances by the likes of Cindy Price Svehla, Chuck Harvey, Bob Long; Ted Keck, and vocalists Staci Harvey and Alda Sommer, among others.
The last concert of the season featured the Cameron Dragon Marching Band and new Color Guard, which performed the CHS Fight Song (D. Goodwin). In addition, Tom and Dee Price presented the 4th Annual Price Scholarship to Ashley Cameron, a distinguished musician and educator.
Ann Goodwin Clark has been the conductor of the Cameron Municipal Band since 2013. “Getting to conduct that band is a huge honor and privilege. Those are people that I worked with, think the world of, and many of them are colleagues in education,” said Clark.
“I have learned so much about Cameron, about our history, and that has been extremely rewarding. I think it's just a great jewel in our community's crown,” she added.
