Taking Back Unwanted Prescription Drugs April 30

On Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Cameron Police Department will participate in the DEA’s National Take-Back Initiative. The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications by ridding homes of potentially dangerous, expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

You may bring your pills for disposal to the front lobby of the Cameron Police Department at 101 North Chestnut in Cameron between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 30. They cannot accept syringes, needles, or sharps.  The service is free and anonymous; no questions asked.

The event is sponsored by the Cameron Police Department, City of Cameron Water District, Clinton County Public Water Supply District #3, and Cameron Regional Medical Center.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse, as well as accidental poisonings and overdoses. Common methods for disposing of unused medicines such as flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash pose potential safety and health hazards.
