Cameron Police Officer Assaulted

Justin L. Schlosser, age 22, of Russellville, Missouri has been charged

On Sunday, July 24, Police Officer Dan Miller was assaulted by 22-year-old Justin L. Schlosser of Russellville, Missouri.

According to a press release issued by Police Chief Rick Bashor, Cameron Dispatch received a call about a subject located near US Highway 36 and Bob Griffin Road that was acting “strange”.

Officer Miller and other officers had been dispatched to the same location earlier in the day and Schlosser had been acting fine. Schlosser had told them at that earlier time in the day he had not eaten in a while and the officers arranged a meal for Schlosser.

Upon realizing that Schlosser was the same subject from earlier in the day, Officer Miller approached Schlosser to check on him. According to the press release, “the subject became enraged and attacked the officer striking him several times in the face with a closed fist. A struggle ensued and a taser was deployed. The subject then ran off east of the Jones Travel Mart and was later arrested. The officer was transported to a local Hospital for his injuries and later released.”

Schlosser has been charged through the DeKalb County Prosecutor’s Office with Class C Felony Resisting/Interfering with an arrest and Class C Felony Assaulting a Police Officer. Schlosser is being held without bond. Preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 2 in DeKalb County Court.

Assisting with this incident was the Missouri State Highway Patrol, DeKalb County Sheriffs Department, and the Clinton County Sheriffs Department.

Chief Bashor in a phone conversation said since the first reporting of the incident by our newspaper on Monday, the outpouring of support from the community has been overwhelming. “We have received many messages through our Facebook page offering words of encouragement, support and concern from the citizens of Cameron, we are very grateful for them all,” Chief Bashor said.
