CCP Presents: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
The Cameron Community Players showcased their summer production last Thursday-Saturday, performing Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Goodrich Auditorium.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a multi genre musical adaption, written by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, of the “Coat of Many Colors” story from the Bible’s Book of Genesis, in which Joseph is given a robe of bright colors as a token of his father’s preference, causing tension between Joseph and his eleven siblings that ultimately leads to Joseph’s imprisonment and eventual rise to the right-hand man of the Pharaoh.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was Robinson’s second experience as a director. Robinson was involved with theater through high school and college, and prefers the behind-the-scenes aspects of theater, namely, costume design.
“Joseph is a unique musical for several reasons.” Director Teri Robinson stated in the Director’s Notes of the production’s program. “First, it is music from start to finish. It is also Andrew Lloyd Webber’s and Tim Rice’s first musical. They wrote it in the 1960’s when they were teenagers. When first written, it was not a musical; it was a choir piece for a church. It was later turned into a musical sometime in the 1970’s. I marvel at the thought of these two talented individuals sitting around writing this show.”
