City Street Dept. doing maintenance on streets

The City of Cameron is planning maintenance on asphalt streets on Thursday May 5th and Friday May 6th.  The work will occur on streets completed during the 2014 and 2015 seasons including Platte-Clay Way, Ford, Kristin, Lea, Lovers Lane, Rosewood Ct, Center St, 4th St Ext and the Veteran's Memorial Park drive. The contractor for this project is Corrective Asphalt Materials, LLC.

The project involves the use of a bituminous pavement rejuvenator agent.  The material is sprayed on the asphalt in a one pass application with a distributer truck and is then sanded after a short time. The amount of sand used varies depending on conditions.  The sand is used only for traction so the roads can be opened back to traffic. After several days any remaining sand will be swept up.

This treatment is weather dependent. If the forecast calls for rain, operations will be delayed.  Once the contractor begins, the process will only take a few hours and then the road will be fully opened to traffic.

These agents are environmentally safe and extend the pavements life.  This preventative maintenance effort will minimize the need for more costly and disruptive methods of street repair in the future.

The sections of Ensign Trace and Little Brick completed last year will not receive any treatment at this time as there were issues with the asphalt mix. The contractor is coming back later this year to fix these sections of road.
