The staff and student body of Cameron Veterans Middle School commemorated the 75th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor on Wednesday, December 7, during their Veterans Appreciation Assembly.

The event kicked off with a breakfast for veterans which included scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, sausage, hashbrowns, coffee, and juice.

Principal, Tiffani Collins, opened the assembly with a warm welcome to veterans, guests, students and staff, with the remainder of the assembly being lead by middle school students. Members of Boy Scout Troops 87 and 175, Cody Terhune, Ben Woolery, Damien Dunham, and Jack Evans gave the Presentation of  Colors.

After the Pledge of Allegiance, the Cameron High School Concert Choir sang the National Anthem.

The 7th grade band played “My Country Tis of Thee”, and “America the Beautiful” before Patriot Pen winners Sarina Anderson and Madison Hamilton read their heartfelt essays.

“God Bless the USA”, “God Bless America”, and “Battle Hymn of the Republic” were sung by the Junior Dragon Singers.

The eighth grade band played  “In Honor of the Fallen” while a moving video was played.

The assembly concluded with the band playing “Armed Forces Salute” and veterans from each branch of service were honored.

WWII Army Veteran, Ray Diven, enjoyed the breakfast and assembly. “I was a senior here at Cameron High School when Pearl Harbor was attacked. I remember going to school the next day and asking where in the world was Pearl Harbor. Little did I know, that I was going to find out real quick. I think it's great that the schools have something like this because it brings it home. For them, that they start understanding what it was when this happened seventy-five years ago,” remarked Diven.
