Local agency to host Mom Prom

The Foster Adopt Connect Northwest Missouri office is hosting their first Mom Prom from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday, April 29 at the Cameron Regional YMCA. Dancing, snacks and games will be provided, and a photographer will be on site.

“It was an idea we borrowed from the Girl Scouts father-daughter dance,” said Derek Williams, Foster Adopt Connect director.  “It suits our purpose well. We are a kid and family organization and we thought it would be a fun twist on a family connection.”

The event is casual, therefore, there is no age limit or dress code.  Williams emphasized that attendees do not have to be in a foster environment or a member of the YMCA.  Becky Neely, from Creative Vibes Photography, will provide the professional photography, with all of her profits donated back to the facility.

“We have no funding at this office,” said Williams.  “We are a non-funded entity.  Our office in Independence has grants, but they didn't budget for us, we volunteered it.  We are on our own as far as funds and getting what we need for the center.  Our first fundraiser, a bake sale, went really well and we were able to raise around $2,000.”

Funds from the event will go toward monthly expenses as well as larger projects.
