No new city council member selected after special session

The Cameron city council did not arrive at a consensus in its effort to appoint an interim member during a special session Monday evening at city hall.

The council heard from four candidates to fill the remainder of the term of councilman Bill Rose-Heim, who resigned Oct. 19.

Each of the four candidates, Dr. Mark Carr, John Feighert, Quinten Lovejoy and Lynn Rogers, were given five minutes each to tell the council why they applied for the open seat on the council and their qualifications.

Members of the council commented on the candidate’s presentations and then made their nominations, which did not require a second. The first candidate that received three votes would fill the remainder of Rose-Heim's term, which expires next April.

Jerri Ann Eddins nominated Dr. Carr and Ronnie Jack nominated Rogers. Darlene Breckenridge and Dennis Clark did not make any nominations.

Clark then asked for a vote on each candidate and Eddins and Breckenridge voted for Dr. Carr while Clark and Jack voted for Rogers.

Clark then asked if anyone wanted to re-vote and none of the other members asked to do so.

“So we are deadlocked at this point at two to two. I guess what we will do is we’ll contemplate on this and think about it and we’ll visit about it on the next council meeting and maybe things will change,” Clark said.
