One killed, five injured in accident north of Cameron

One person has died and five persons were injured, four seriously, in a two-vehicle accident north of Cameron Saturday night.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports 18-year-old Dalton Venneman of Cameron was pronounced deceased by DeKalb County Coroner Heath Turner at 11:46 p.m. Suffering serious injuries as a result of the accident was 19-year-old Brittany Jones, 14-year-old Matthew Morrison, 14-year-old Dakota Venneman, and 31-year-old Brandon Evans, all from Cameron. 22-year-old Michael Thornton of Cameron sustained moderate injuries.

Jones was transported to Liberty Hospital by Cameron Ambulance. Morrison, Dakota Venneman and Evans were transported to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph by Cameron Ambulance and DeKalb Clinton Ambulance. Thornton was transported to Cameron Regional Medical Center by Daviess County Ambulance.

The patrol reports the accident occurred at 10:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 69, one mile north of Cameron.

Dalton Venneman was driving a 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix northbound and attempted to make a left turn onto a private drive when his car was struck in the driver’s side door by a 1993 GMC pickup truck driven northbound by Evans.

Jones, Morrison and Dakota Venneman were passengers in the car driven by Dalton Venneman. Thornton was a passenger in the pickup truck driven by Evans.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Department and Cameron Police Department assisted at the scene.
