Parkview Elementary hosts Community Hero Day

On Monday September 12, Parkview students lined the sidewalk of the circle drive, with flags, signs and red white and blue clothing, waiting on the arrival of our Community Heroes. The children cheered and waved their flags as Police cars, Fire Trucks, and the Ambulance took a couple of laps around the drive.

The children became even more excited as the Police, Fire and EMS personnel parked their vehicles and went around the drive giving high fives.

Donna Rush, Principal of Parkview Elementary said, “These children weren’t even born when 9/11 happened. This was a way to put them in touch and make them aware of the heroes working in their community.”

Social Study lessons have been on community helpers the past few weeks and students wrote thank you notes to the EMS, Firefighters and Police.

The students, faculty and staff were encouraged to wear red, white and blue to show their patriotic pride.

“We wanted to show our appreciate for the men and women who work to keep us safe everyday,” Rush said.
