Presenter Jim Jordan catches the attention of Parkview students as he speaks on the subject of bullying.

Parkview Elementary kicks off Bucket Filler Program

Parkview Elementary students participated in a “Friends Helping Friends-Stop Bullying” presentation on Friday, August 19. The event kicked off Parkview Elementary's Bucket Filler Program, which strives to create a positive learning environment for all students. “The earlier we begin educating and setting high expectations for students, the better,” remarked Parkview Elementary Principal, Donna Rush.

Professional speaker, Jim Jordan, focused on simple steps that students can choose to make their school the best it can be. Achieving this requires caring, sharing, and building friendships. According to Jordan, bullies pick on kids that have no friends, therefore by building a caring, sharing foundation, students will feel more confident in speaking up.

Jordan entertained students while delivering a message that included defining what bullying is, the verbal, physical, and gossiping aspects, and why it's important to speak up when a friend is being hurt. “By learning and understanding  'caring, sharing, and building friendships', it will make students more aware of their own actions by gaining knowledge in building a better school for their community,” stated Jordan.

Students were encouraged to do simple yet powerful things to make their school a more positive place. Writing a note to their  favorite teacher, having lunch with someone that they don't normally eat with, and asking someone different to join their play group at recess are several examples.

Jordan was voted best entertainer by Readers Choice Awards 12 years in a row. He's the author of four books on bullying, and has been traveling across North America to educate students, teachers, and parents on how to become proactive in bullying situations.

The following businesses donated funds to provide special shirts for all Parkview staff and students: Walmart, Cameron Education Foundation, Dr. Douglas Wyckoff, Edward Jones, Farmers State Bank, Karen Chaney Agency Inc., American Family Insurance, ReMax Partners, 1st Cameron State Bank, Cameron Mutual Insurance Company, Cameron Newspapers, Cameron Regional Medical Center, Regional Radio KKWK, Poland Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron Coop, Krentz Construction, The Drug Store, and Winner's Circle Awards.
