Two new Principals in Cameron Schools

As the new school year begins, students, parents and faculty will notice two familiar faces in new positions at Cameron Schools.

Angela Ormsby is now the Principal of Parkview Elementary and Brett Jones is the Principal of Cameron High School.

Ormsby is beginning her 17th year in education and has been in the Cameron School District for three years as the instructional coach for Parkview and Cameron Intermediate School. Previously, she was the Principal at Princeton R-5 – where she had worked as an administrator for six years with four years as the building Principal.

Ormsby said she is most looking forward to continuing the hard work and success experienced in recent years at Parkview, making sure kids are learning to their potential and having a good time while doing it.

According to Ormsby one of her favorite things about working at Parkview has been, “We have amazing children, great families, the faculty and staff, couldn’t ask for any better.  I love the environment, it is like a family, want to continue with that, want everyone to look forward to coming to work and continue that.”

Ormsby has been married for seventeen years to her husband Doug, they have two children – one entering 6th grade and one entering 2nd. When she has free time, she simply enjoys spending it with her family.

Brett Jones, formerly the Assistant Principal of Cameron High School, has been promoted to Principal. Jones has served for three years in the position of Assistant Principal at Cameron and previously he taught Chemistry and coached in North Kansas City Schools. Jones is beginning his 14th year in education.

Jones said one of his favorite things about working in Cameron High School has been, “We have a great staff always looking to do what is best for kids. We have awesome kids, they are so caring, always looking to help out their fellow classmates and I always hear positive things in the community. All of that combined is what makes this such a great place.”

In the coming year Jones said he plans to continue the good things going on in Cameron High School with a big focus on building positive relationships with staff, students and the community. Jones said the staff of Cameron High School has developed a good collaborative working relationship and he hopes to work toward a better relationship with the community as well. As part of that effort, Jones said the Parent Advisory group will continue to meet to have conversations with parents about what is going on in the school – including what they like and what they have concerns about. Jones said they will also be looking for new learning opportunities and experiences for students which may not be traditional, but will give them “genuine, relevant learning opportunities”.

Ormsby and Jones both expressed their own personal desire to continue to improve their own education, whether through formal education or learning from other professionals, they are always looking to improve their craft.

Both Principals were clear about their open door policy for students, parents and faculty.

Ormsby said she wants parents and families to know she is accessible, always here to listen, appreciate their input, “The child is more successful if the family and the school  are connected and work together. That’s my goal.”

Jones echoed Ormsby and said, “I have an open door policy, if there is ever a question or concern, I’ll be happy to listen to try to work it out. It’s important that the school and the community work together, would like to build that collaborative culture.”

The first day of classes for Cameron School District is August 17 and will have a regular dismissal.
