YMCA Healthy Kids Day a success

 

The annual Healthy Kids Day was held at the Cameron Regional YMCA on Saturday, April 23, with approximately 200 people in attendance.

 

Children were provided with information and activities including: YMCA Kids Zumba, arts, crafts and obstacle course with the Cameron Public Library, petting zoo with Jeannette Dotson and Leslie Robinson, recycling from Region D Solid Waste District, water safety and park information from US Army Corps of Engineers, outdoor safety from the University of Missouri Extension Office and a hand washing station with the Cameron Regional Medical Center. Other participating organizations and agencies included: Cameron Ambulance District, Cameron Fire Department, Officer Kirkendoll and “Officer X” K-9 dog, KKWK Radio, MoKan Greyhound Adoption Agency, and Dr. Wyckoff Dentistry.

 

Mike Moore and the Cameron Optimist Club held a bicycle rodeo, and the Missouri Conservation Department had casting lessons in the parking lot of the YMCA.

A drawing was held at the end of the event for bicycles donated by Clifton Vandeventer of State Farm Insurance, Boyles Motors Inc., Wal-Mart, R&W Container, and David Broermann of Missouri Farm Bureau. Other prizes included helmets, chalk, bubbles, balls, and skate passes.

“Thank you to James and Kristin Slatten for donating the bounce house, Dawn Gabauer and the high school students for face painting, Rusty Herring and Josh Watson for volunteering, as well as all of the YMCA staff,” said Amanda Crowley, Youth and Family Coordinator/Membership Services Coordinator of the Cameron Regional YMCA.
