Charles Fitzgerald Hinchey 1921-2016

 

Charles Hinchey, age 94, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away at the Missouri Veterans Home, Cameron, Missouri, on Wednesday, March 30, 2016.

Charles was born on October 8, 1921, the son of Charles Michael and Josephine Frances (Fitzgerald) Hinchey in Excelsior Springs, Missouri.  He was a 1939 graduate of Cameron High School.  He joined the United States Army Air Corps in 1943, serving in World War II until 1945.  On June 23, 1952, he married Margaret Jane “Peg” Young in Chillicothe, Missouri.  She preceded him in death on April 6, 2005.

Charles worked for Vendo and General Motors at the Fairfax Plant in Kansas City, Missouri, from 1939 to 1942.  In 1943 until 1945 he served as a Radio Operator in the Army Air Corp during WWII.  He was shot down and was missing in action for six weeks.  In 1945 until 1949 he went to Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville where he received his Bachelors of Science in Ag Business.  From 1945 until 1959 he was a plant foreman for the GM Fairfax Plant and farmed his family farm which was established in the 1830’s.  He lived on the family farm near Turney, Missouri, until the house burned in 1961, at which time he moved to Chillicothe to farm, and was the director of Farm Credit Services and was one of the founders of the Water District #3.  In 2012 he moved to Our Lady of Mercy Country Home in Liberty.  Charles was a member of the American Legion Vern R. Glick Post No. 25 in Chillicothe, Roy L. Burkett VFW Post 858, and Disabled American Veterans.  He was also a member of the St. Columban’s Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Margaret Parrish husband Blake of Liberty, Missouri; two grandchildren, Mike Parrish, of Houston, Texas and Kristin George and husband Alex of Liberty, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Mason, Ashley and Connor George all of Liberty, Missouri; one sister, Marie “Mary” Baron of Tucson, Arizona.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son Charles Victor “Chuck” Hinchey, one brother James P. Hinchey and one sister Susan Tuttle.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Columban’s Catholic Church on Saturday, April 2, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. A Parish Rosary will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, April 1, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. with a visitation to follow.  Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, April 1, 2016, from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.  Burial will be held at St. Columban’s Catholic Cemetery, Chillicothe, Missouri. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Down Syndrome Guild of Kansas City and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
