Donald LaVern Sweeney 1924-2016
Salt Lake City, Utah – Donald LaVern (Pete) Sweeney, 74, passed away on September 14, 2016 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on July 8, 1942, to Donald Dwight and Crystal Marilyn (Middaugh) Sweeney in Pontiac, Mich.
Pete grew up in Cameron and graduated from Cameron High School in 1961 where he participated in football, basketball and track. He retired as a Master Stg. from the United States Air Force after serving from 1964-1984.
Pete enjoyed traveling with his wife, Connie, in their motor home and spending time with family and friends. He loved all sports, especially playing golf. He was proud of growing up in Cameron and being a CAMERON DRAGON!
He was preceded in death by his father, Don, his mother, Crystal, his stepfather, Dale Nelson, his stepsister, Sandra Riley, his half-brother, Larry Sweeney and his brother-in-law, Bob Berryhill.
Survivors include his wife, Connie of the home, two stepchildren, Susan (Rick) Montgomery, and Brooke (Debbie) Banta; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, sister and brother-in-law, Dr. Pat (Cissie) and Ward Moore, special niece, Audra Seifert (Mike) Hoss, stepsister, Nancy Berryhill, and half-brother, Lynn Sweeney.
Pete was a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) heart patient for the last two years. He enjoyed educating other LVAD patients and sharing his story. Graveside services were held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at the Syracuse City Cemetery in Syracuse, Utah.
