Dorothy L. Olsen 1930-2018

Winston - Dorothy LaDenne Olsen, 88, passed away suddenly on February 26, 2018.

Dorothy was born on February 12, 1930 to Albert F. And Cecile (Yoho) Cox. She attended many schools while growing up and graduated from Winston High School in 1949. She married George H. “G.H.” Olsen on her twentieth birthday, February 12, 1950. They resided on their farm south of Winston their entire 61 years of married life, and Dorothy remained on the farm after G.H.’s death in 2011. They were the parents to four sons: Bob, Gary, John and Steve.

Dorothy was a busy farm wife. She always tended a large garden and shared its abundance with family and friends. Dorothy especially enjoyed attending school events and ball games that her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participated in. She was a long-time member of Winston United Methodist Church and served as its financial secretary for many years. She participated in many civic activities in the Winston community over the years.

Dorothy was a long-time member of the Lathrop Antique Tractor and Engine Show. She churned butter at the Living History Days for many years. She was also a lifetime member of the Hamilton Steam and Gas Show. Dorothy was not only a member of those organizations, she also pulled her B John Deere in the tractor pulls.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, Bob (Pam), Louisville, Ky., Gary (Mary), Altamont, John, Winston, and Steve (Jennifer), Maysville; grandchildren, Trisha Gibson, Jolene King, Kristy Burns, Lindsey Olsen, Stephanie Talbott, Heather Bailey, Samantha West, Harry Olsen, Brett Olsen, Michelle Briggs, Carrie Walker, Derek Sweiger, Kate Sweiger and Tonya Kellie; 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by sisters, Billye Kriss, Gladstone, Esther (Chuck) Wilson, Corralitos, Calif. and Nancy Curtis, Grand Rapids, Mich. and by brother, Maurice (Cheron) Cox, North Kansas City.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 2, 2018 at Winston United Methodist Church, Winston. Burial: Winston Cemetery, Winston, MO. Visitation will be held from 6 - 8 p.m., Thursday, March 1, at Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron, MO. Memorials: Winston United Methodist Church, Winston, MO.
