I. Pearl Wake 1918-2017
Overland Park, Kansas- Iva Pearl Wake, 98, formerly of Lathrop, passed away on April 5, 2017 surrounded by her family.
Pearl was born on October 28, 1918 in Forbes to Roy and Agnes (Shanks) Grimes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rev. Raymond Albert Wake; three brothers, John Grimes, Connie O’Connell and Dale O’Connell; three sisters, Irene Roeder, Jeannie Dietch and Beverly Fitzmorris; step-son, David Lawton.
Pearl was a graduate of Missouri Western University with a Bachelor of Science in Art and a graduate of Northwest Missouri State University with a Master’s Degree in Education. She taught Art and Photography in the Winston School District from 1975-2003. Pearl served as pastor’s wife in ministry with her husband for 29 years at the First Baptist Church, Lathrop.
She was a member of the Lenexa Baptist Church, Lenexa, Kan.
On June 22, 1996, Pearl married John Lawton in Cameron.
He survives of the home.
Additional survivors: daughter, Debbie (Danny) Richerson, Liberty; son, Lanny (Lila) Wake, Cameron; step-son, John Lawton; 3 stepdaughters, Laura Cook, Linda Higgins and Lisa Henderson; two sisters, Joy Sherer, Bound Brook, N.J. and Ruth McCoy, St. Joseph; four grandchildren, Raechel Richerson, Whitney (Nathan) Stock, Jayce Richerson, Megan Wake (Cody Barry); great-granddaughter, Teagan Stock; nieces, Sharon Roeder and Carol Strong.
While we will greatly miss her, we also rejoice in her homecoming into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ whom she served all her life.
Services were held 11 a.m., Monday, April 10, 2017 at First Baptist Church, Cameron. Visitation was held 5-7 p.m., Sunday evening at Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron. Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph, Missouri. Memorial Donations to the Winston School Art Department.
