Joyce Irene Richardson 1942 - 2021

Joyce Irene Richardson, born September 20, 1942, in Coin, IA to the late Lowell Kermit and Ruth Marie (Grafft) Anderson. She was the second oldest of seven children. She was born on the family farm in the south bedroom, the very same bedroom her father was born in. Joyce passed away August 3, 2021, at North Care Hospice House of North Kansas City, Missouri after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Joyce attended school in Southwest Iowa and graduated from Amity School. She went on to attend Northwest Missouri State University and received her bachelor’s degree, Master’s Degree in education, and Specialist Degree in Education Administration. She spent her career in education, as both a teacher and administrator.

Joyce loved many things, including gardening and flowers, but most of all spending time with her grandchildren. She was their biggest fan. Her grandchildren were her hobby. Joyce never missed an event. She always took lots of pictures and made scrapbooks for each grandchild. She also kept her own stat books of all her grandchildren’s sporting events, although they were “grandmas stats”. She had her walls covered with family photos.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents Lowell and Ruth, and brother-in-law Burke Jeselnik.

Joyce is survived by her children, Donnie (Barb) Richardson, Darien (Chontel) Richardson, and Krista (Jim) Helton; grandchildren, Cameron (Rylee) Richardson, Jared (Mallory) Thompson, Marissa Richardson, and Joshua (Brooke) Thompson; siblings, Judy Nelson, Linda (Keith) Meyer, David (Jenell) Anderson, Paul (Karen) Anderson, Ellen Jeselnik, Cindy (Steve) Goudie, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, August 10, 2021, 11am at College Springs Presbyterian Church with visitation 1 hour prior. Burial was held Tuesday, August 10, 2021, 2pm at Elmwood Cemetery in Coin, Iowa following the luncheon in the church basement.
