Martha Agnes Combs Boll 1914- 2015

GRANT CITY - Martha Agnes Combs Boll, born July 6, 1914, passed away on November 24, 2015, at the age of 101 in Grant City.

Born and raised in Denver, Mo., her parents were Col. A. Z. Combs and Ida Wilson Combs.

Following her graduation from Grant City High School, she married Victor Wayne (V. W.) Boll. They were the parents of two children, Donnie Dwayne Boll and Connie Jean Boll Wilkinson.

After living for a short time on the Boll home place west of Denver, they moved to Grant City where they owned and operated Home Oil and Implement and were among the first to have a dealership for Hudson cars and Allis Chalmers farm equipment in Northwest Missouri.

Following Victor’s death in 1963, Martha pursued a successful career in real estate in St. Joseph, as a GRI real estate saleswoman, broker and certified real estate instructor. She was recognized by Who’s Who of American Women for her professional accomplishments.

Martha was born into an accomplished musical family. Her father, Col. A. Z. Combs was a nationally recognized fiddler and performing artist and had his own radio program on WIBW in Topeka, Kan.

Martha’s talent was as a pianist and organist; she played at dances and other get-togethers, including church services at The Village in Cameron, where she was a resident for 12 years. She accompanied her daughter Connie’s dance and singing performances at many local, regional and national venues. Her son Don also followed his mother’s musical influence as a music educator for 30 years, including as the Director of the Music Department at Crowder College.

An avid golfer when she was able to play, Martha enjoyed all sports, particularly taking an interest when family members played, and attended as many of their games as possible. She was a long-standing Royals fan and followed their games faithfully.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Victor; two half-brothers, Curt Terry and George Terry; her sister-in-law, Bonnie Boll Beavers; and nephews, Bill Terry and Wm. Rex Beavers. Her second husband, Dr. H. F. Earley, also preceded her in death.

Surviving family members include: her son, Donnie Dewayne Boll and his wife Mary; and grandchildren, Gregory Wayne Boll (Terri) and their children, Andrea and Andrew; Victor William Boll (Amy) and their children, Leanne, Audrey, Paige and Whitney; and Amy Dawn Boll Wakefield (Michael) and their children, Arlen and Leela. She is survived also by her daughter, Connie Jean Boll Wilkinson; and grandchildren, Trusten Chris Wilkinson, and his daughter, Kyndal; and Jason Wade Wilkinson and his son, Tyler Wade. Also surviving are nephews, Bob Terry and Fred Beavers; and nieces, Peggy Terry Severins and Jill Beavers Crites.

Graveside services were held November 28, 2015, at Prairie Chapel Cemetery west of Denver, Mo.
