Martha Sue “Susie” (Hill) Martin, 77 of Turney entered eternal life September 25, 2016 at her home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Susie entered this life May 2, 1939 near Rockingham in Ray County, the daughter of William Charles and Mae Belle (Knight) Hill.

Susie grew up in Cameron and graduated from Cameron High School in 1957. She was a lifeguard and Cameron High School cheerleader. In 1959 she earned her Secretarial Science Certificate from the University of Central Missouri.

On August 6, 1962 she was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Martin at the Pilgrim Presbyterian Church in Cameron. Bob and Susie began their married life in Louisiana, then they moved to Kearney and eventually settled in Turney where they started a family with the birth of a son David.

Mrs. Martin received her Bachelor’s degree in education in 1978 from Missouri Western State University.  Susie taught kindergarten and learning development for the Osborn School District for the majority of her career.  The gift of reading was her passion and was enabled through the softness she exhibited towards all children.  Susie was a lifelong sports fan. She was a fan of the Royals and Mizzou Basketball.  When she became a grandmother she was an avid sports supporter for her grandchildren.  Susie enjoyed playing the flute and piano and brought the love of music and theatre to her family.

Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Jack Hill.  She is survived by her husband of the home, son David (Michelle) of Polo and grandchildren Harley, Wiley, Gunnar and Maggie.  Three nephews Gary, Mark, Scott and five nieces Diane, Denise, Laurie, Audra and their extended families also survive.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial gifts to Prairie Ridge Church or Prairie Ridge Cemetery in loving memory of Susie Martin.  Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 29, 2016 at noon at Stith Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Polo, with Pastor Wally Aubrey officiating.
