Peggy Sharon Dodds 1942 –2017

 

Cameron - Peggy Sharon Dodds, 75, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, December 9, 2017 at home.

Peggy was born February 28, 1942 to Burl Claybourne Ruth and Ardie Jane Boroughs in Steele.   She was one of four children.   She graduated from Central High School in North St. Louis.

Peggy was married to Ray Mabury from August 6, 1961 to August 13, 1983.   They had two children together, Kevin Mabury (1962) and Kristy (Mabury) Goetting (1964).  During that time she was a homemaker and later became a licensed beautician working in the Carrollton area.

In the early 80’s she moved to the Adamsville, Tenn. area to be near her mother, sister, and brothers and family in the area.   There she married James (Jimmy) Dodds from November 2, 1986 to the time of his passing on December 3, 1993. While in Tenn., Peggy cared for her mother until her passing and later her sister, Jane, until her passing.  Peggy handled the land management duties of the Dodds properties all her life. She was married for a short period during 2001 to Robert Kendall. In 2004 she moved into her home in Cameron.   She lived there with her pet Sunshine until her passing.

Peggy loved her family very much.  She was always interested in their life events and activities.

She took time to take care of her husband Jimmy, her mother Ardie, her sister Jane in their last years.  She spent time caring for her brother Gene in his last days as well.   She loved to search garage sales for treasures and research their hidden worth.   She was always generous with her giving and helping of others.   She wanted everyone to pursue their dreams and hopes and tried to help them.   She took joy when she could give anyone one of the treasures she found. She loved her dog Sunshine very much.   She was an independent and determined person.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jimmy Dodds, husband Robert Kendall, brother Gene Ruth, and sister Jane Ferguson.

Surviving family includes her brother John Ruth, her children Kevin Mabury (Terry) of St. Joseph and Kristy Goetting (Fred) of Carrollton.   As ‘Mema’ she leaves eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren with another on the way.  As ‘Aunt Peggy’ she leaves many nieces, nephews, grand & great-grand nieces/nephews.   She also leaves behind those she adopted into her family circle and watched after.

Peggy was cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.

On Saturday December 16 at Deer Park United Methodist Church in St. Joseph, there will be a visitation with the family at 10 a.m. with a service to follow at 11 a.m.   In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Deer Park Grace in memory of Peggy Dodds for church missions.
