Roger "Mel" Yetter 1931-2017

South Jordan, Utah - Roger "Mel" Yetter, age 85, passed away in with family at his bedside in the morning hours of 29 June 2017.   Mel was a long time resident of Cameron, MO as he lived there from 1971 to 2014 and was an active member of the community.

Mel was born on 10 October 1931 at Denver, CO as his parents were Lionel Yetter and Vera Mitchell Yetter.  His father was killed in a street fight when Mel was only 5 years old.  Having no insurance, the five kids were split up with the two oldest kids going to live with grandparents, the two youngest going to the Denver orphan home with the other child remaining with their mother.  Mel went to the Clayton College orphan home and was the smallest kid among 200 boys and earned the moniker "Mouse". He learned quickly how to defend himself and make friends with the toughest kids in his dorm.  Mel spent 10 years at the orphan home and ran away in 1947 and continued to be an active member of the alumni association in organizing reunions and penned their quarterly newsletter for years.

In 1948 Mel joined the U.S. Army for three years and was extended for an additional year due to the "Police Action" in Korea.  Mel was in the Chemical Corps as a military policeman and later an administrative clerk, and was sent to Deseret Chemical Depot in Utah.  He was honorably discharged in 1952.

He married the former Blanche Lorraine Taylor in 1953 which resulted in the five oldest kids.  In the early 1960s, Mel moved to Kansas City, MO and met his second wife, the former Joan Bradley and they were married on 12 May 1965 with Gregg and Kelly Yetter resulting from that union.  They were married for 46 years until she preceded him in death on 22 October 2011.  After moving to Cameron in 1971, Mel founded Yetter Pest Control, Inc. in 1972, and was active in the pest control industry.  He was a member of the Board of Missouri Pest Control Association for 16 years and went onto serve on the National Board of Pest Control for four years as Vice President and later served on the Board of the World Pest Control Association as a Secretary/Treasurer for another two years.  Mel received numerous local and national association awards and was widely respected highly regarded among his peers.  Mel retired in 2000 and sold Yetter Pest Control to Craig Griffin who still runs the business.

In August 2014, Mel moved to Salt Lake City, UT and married the former Sandy Brown on 19 August 15 who survives him and resides in South Jordan.

He was a member of the Taylorsville, UT Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Mel is survived by his wife Sandy, his daughters Brenda Loya, Judy Darby, Rhonda Covert, Kelly Yetter and his son LtCol Gregg Yetter, USMC with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his first wife Blanche, second wife Joan and his sons Marvin Yetter and Roger Yetter.
