Steven Ross Huitt

July 9, 1947- November 13, 2018

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of Steve Huitt, who passed away at his second home, Cameron Regional Medical Center.

Steve was blessed with an old soul and huge heart. While he grew up in Cameron, Steve spent the majority of his life in Lathrop, where he raised his family and owned the local grocery store, Howard’s Market. Steve made friendships that would last a lifetime, and he loved serving his community. As a business owner, Steve always made sure to support the local schools, athletics, and community. There was not a place Steve went that he did not know at least one person. He always made sure that the people he loved and cared about were taken care of, and was known to give anonymously every chance he had.

For over 20 years, Steve loved serving on the Cameron Regional Hospital Board of Directors. He enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren and looking for their accomplishments in the paper each morning. Whether family, friends or strangers, Steve would do anything for anyone.  While he will live on in our memories forever, his generosity, love, and smile will be dearly missed.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Rose Marie (Bailey) and Howard Ross Huitt. He is survived by wife of 47 years, Emily (Graeff) Huitt; children, Scott Huitt, Heather Paul (Jamie), Brian Huitt (Brandy);  grandchildren, Drayven and Colby Huitt, Luke, Lauren and Logan Paul, Annika, Brooke and Kiah Huitt;  siblings, Gary Huitt and Vicki Mallen; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be held Sunday, November 18, from 4-6 pm at the First Baptist Church of Lathrop. Funeral services celebrating Steve’s life will be Monday, November 19, at 10 am at the church. Burial will follow in the Lathrop Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Rehabilitation Department at Cameron Regional Medical Center.
