Winifred E. Gross 1925-2018
Cameron, Missouri- Winifred E. Gross (Moreland), 93, Cameron, passed away on September 7, 2018 at Redwood Care Center in Cameron.
Winnie was born July 7, 1925, the third child, and only daughter, to Harold and Mary Lois (Smith) Moreland in Osborn, MO.
Winnie graduated from Osborn R-0 in 1943. William L. Gross “Bill” and Winnie were united in marriage on April 29, 1944 and made their home on the family farm northeast of Osborn. Bill and Winnie had two sons, Ronnie and Doran.
Bill passed away in 1983 and Winnie continued living at the farm until she decided it was to much for her to care for and moved to Cameron in 2006.
Winnie retired from Cameron Mutual Insurance then worked 10+ years at Walmart as being idle just wasn’t her nature. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Osborn, the American Legion 40/8 and the Red Hatters Society. She loved cooking, gardening, crocheting with her dear friend, Anita Spicer and most of all she loved her family.
Winnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; brothers, Donald and James; daughter-in-law, Belinda Stroup Gross; grandson, Doran Allen Gross, grandson-in-law, Robert Mattson and 2 great-grandsons, Spencer Mattson and Luke Hogue.
Winnie is survived by her sons, Ronald Stephen, Osborn and Doran Russell, Stewartsville; grandchildren, Rhonda (Joe) Hogue, Platte City, Julie Mattson, Cameron, Ryan Gross, Osborn and Elaine (Jason) Saunders, Stewartsville; great-grandchildren, Alex and Brett Gross, Katie Hogue, Doran, Emily and Ian Saunders; 3 step-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren.
In honoring Winnie’s request, there will be no visitation or public service. Winnie’s ashes will join Bill’s in Colorado, their favorite vacation spot. Arrangements: Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron. Online condolences: www.polandthompson.com.
