Winona A. Ensign 1920-2017

Overland Park, Kan.- Winona Avanell Ensign, 97, Overland Park, Kan. formerly of Cameron passed away on November 13, 2017.

Winona was born January 29, 1920 in Cameron to Walter and Dora (Miller) Groves.

She was a 1938 graduate of Cameron High School. In October 1969, Winona worked as Assistant Postmaster in Cowgill. In February of 1983, she became the Postmaster in Cowgill until September of 1994, when she retired. She and Gene also owned and operated Ensign Ford Tractor and Implements in Cowgill for over 20 years.

Winona was a member of the Cameron United Methodist Church.

On August 20, 1958, Winona married Gene Ensign at the Mable Church in Cameron.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene in 2008; brother, Donald Grove; two sisters, Dorothy Ensign and Francis Shaver.

Survivors include sister, Betty Terry, Andover, Kan. and nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 17, 2017 at Poland-Thompson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., prior to the service. Inurnment: Evergreen Cemetery, Cameron, Missouri.
