“Show Offs Welcome” at the Missouri State Fair

Each summer, hundreds of thousands of Missourians from across the state make the trip to Sedalia to enjoy the attractions of the Missouri State Fair. With top musical acts, great food, exciting rides and more, the state fair always promises to be fun for the whole family.

Now in its 113th year, the Missouri State Fair has expanded and evolved considerably since its debut in 1901, continuing to adapt over time as it keeps pace with the changing characteristics of our state and the needs of our citizens. One thing that hasn’t changed over the last century, however, is the fair’s steadfast commitment to preserving and promoting agriculture in Missouri, our No. 1 industry.

The official theme of this year’s fair is “Show Offs Welcome.” I can’t think of a more fitting choice, since there truly is no better platform than the Missouri State Fair for our agricultural community to proudly show off how far we’ve come and where we’re headed. Indeed, the future leaders of Missouri’s agriculture industry are the very same young men and women who will be presenting the culmination of all their hard work at this year’s fair, and I wish them all the best of luck.

I’m very pleased to report that the future now looks even brighter for the Missouri State Fair, as it was announced just last month that the State Fairgrounds in Sedalia will receive an estimated $4 million in funding to put toward property upgrades, thanks in part to a bipartisan show of support by the Legislature this past session.

The 2015 Missouri State Fair will begin on Aug. 13 and last through Aug. 23, and I encourage all residents of the 12th District to attend. For more information, visit www.mostatefair.com or call (800) 422-FAIR (3247).
