Healthy Habits: National Blueberry Month

July is National Blueberry Month.  In Missouri, Blueberry season runs from June through early October.  Blueberries contain a polyphenol called anthocyanin.   Anthocyanins provide color to this glorious fruit and have beneficial properties for the body.  They help fight against chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disorders, diabetes, and cancer.   Manganese and vitamin C are found in this fruit and help with the immune system, growth & development, healing, and metabolism.  Aside from tasting great and providing health benefits, they’re full of fiber with only 80 calories per cup!
