Cameron season opener ends early

The Cameron High School Dragon Soccer Team took an early exit Monday during their season-opening game against Maryville.

With the Dragons still developing a core group of underclassmen, facing one of the strongest teams in the Midland Empire Conference for their first game, which eventually ended on a 13-0 mercy rule after the first half, was no small undertaking. 

The program continues looking for their first victory since the program was resurrected in 2019 after taking a year off due to lack of player. Coach Jason Welch, who oversees the Cameron Dragon Soccer Club, took over coaching duties that year.

The Dragons will return to Dave Goodwin Field when they host Winnetonka Thursday with kickoff set for 5 p.m.The Cameron High School Dragon Soccer Team took an early exit Monday during their season-opening game against Maryville.
