Cardinals trip Dragons

The Lawson Cardinals scored with less than one minute to play and handed the Cameron Dragons a 47-45 loss in the consolation semifinal of the Cameron Boys Invitational Tournament Thursday night.

The Dragons held a 45-44 lead when the Cardinals Kevin Schmitz scored on a lay-up to put Lawson in front with 40 seconds remaining. After CHS missed a shot, the Cardinals Tanner Smith was fouled and converted one of two free throws with seven seconds to go for the two-point lead. Cameron then missed on a shot attempt as the final buzzer sounded.

The Dragons led 27-23 at the half, but were held scoreless in the third period as Lawson took a 29-27 lead going to the fourth quarter.

Andrew Pratt paced CHS with 14 points. Nate Triplett scored eight. Jaxson Frazier and Sam Morrison had six points each. Kyler Hill scored five, Dre Dickerson had four and Parker McGinnis added two points.

Smith led Lawson with 11 and Cody Glenn added ten points.

The Dragons will face Bishop LeBlond in the seventh place contest Friday at 7 p.m. The Golden Eagles fell to Excelsior Springs, 47-40.
