Chillicothe girls, Smithville boys win Cameron tournament titles

The Chillicothe girls and the Smithville boys won the championships at the 28th annual Cameron Invitational Saturday.

For the second straight year and the sixth time in tournament history, the Chillicothe Lady Hornets are the girl's champions after a 33-25 victory over Bishop LeBlond.

Hannah Jones and Karson Keithley scored nine points each to lead Chillicothe. Tyler Reid scored nine points to pace Bishop LeBlond.

Smithville captured the boy’s championship with a 58-56 victory over Chillicothe. It was the fourth time the Warriors have won the tournament in the past six years.

Campbell Lakatos led Smithville with 20 points and Riley Gesling added 15. Cade Snyder and Mason Hayward scored 13 points apiece for the Hornets.

In the girls third place contest, Lawson defeated Savannah, 36-29. Hayley Rash scored 13 points for the Lady Cardinals. McKenzie Beattie had eight points to lead Savannah.

In the boys third place game, Maryville was victorious over Higginsville, 65-63, in overtime. Trey Oglesby poured in 25 points, making seven three-pointers, for the Hounds. Eli Dyer had 18 points and Mason Haynes 17 for the Huskers.

The Ryan Beckett Hustle Award was presented to Nate McKiddy of Chillicothe. The award is in memory of former Dragons player Ryan Beckett, who died in an accident in December 2013.
