Choate and Richardson finish third in MEC

The Cameron girl’s doubles team of Morgan Choate and Taylor Richardson finished in third place at the MEC girl’s tennis tournament in St. Joseph Sept. 23.

They opened with an 8-0 win against Sarah Aberer and Jaleigh Hamlin of Bishop LeBlond, and then defeated Madison Stelter and Bailey White of Maryville, 8-5, to move into the semifinal, where they lost to Renee Downing and Julia Minnis of Chillicothe, 6-4, 6-0. In the third place match, the CHS duo posted an 8-2 win over Nauy Bui and Katelyn Joe of Bishop LeBlond.

The other doubles team of Kelly Baker and Nicole Gitthens lost their first match to Gracie Hellerich and Maddie Clabaugh of Lafayette, 9-8 (7-5), and then lost to Kaitlyn Ruoff and Lauren Maize of Savannah, 8-3.

In singles, Victoria Negus lost her first match to Ashlyn Dotson of Lafayette, 8-0, and fell to Stephanie Brown of Benton.

Nita Ruuskanen lost her opening match against Meka Betts of Benton, 8-2, and then lost to Hannah Kizer of Maryville.

The Lady Dragons will face Trenton at Trenton on Monday in the Class 1 District 16 team tournament. Should CHS prevail, they will then go to Maryville on Tuesday for the semifinal against the Lady Hounds.
