CHS basketball teams suffer losses to East Buchanan

The Cameron boys and girls basketball teams fell to East Buchanan in action at the CHS gym Monday night.

In the girl's contest, East Buchanan jumped out to a 14-2 lead after the first quarter and went on to defeat the Lady Dragons, 44-29.

The Lady Bulldogs stretched their lead to 24-6 by halftime.

Eastin McDowell scored eight points to lead CHS. Mallory Bashor had six points. Brianna O’Grady and Olivia Nelson contributed four points each. Hannah Robinson added three points and Karlie Shanks and Paige Harper scored two points apiece.

Josie Fortney led East Buchanan with 14 points and Madison McCreary added 12.

In the boy's game, East Buchanan used a second quarter surge to propel them to a 69-52 victory over the Dragons.

The visitors from Gower held a 12- 6 lead at the end of the first quarter and then outscored the Dragons, 23-9 in the second period to take a 35-15 lead at the half.

The Bulldogs led by as many as 30 points in the second half.

Parker Whitacre scored a game-high 18 points to pace CHS. Kyler Hill added 15 and Andrew Pratt scored 13. Dre Dickerson had four points and Jackson Ruffcorn-Rowland and Trae Jackson scored one point each.

Nate Griffin led East Buchanan with 13 points and Colby Rapp added 12.

The Dragons, now 3-7 for the season, will host Savannah in the MEC opener Thursday.

The Lady Dragons, now 0-9 this season, will open MEC play on Friday when they travel to Savannah.
