CHS cross country sending five to state

Five members of the Cameron cross country team have qualified for the MSHSAA Class 3 state championships Nov. 7 in Jefferson City.

CHS will be represented by senior Sam Evans and sophomore Jacob Barbee in the boy’s race and freshmen Nicole Jackson, Abigail Robinson and Kenzie Terhune in the girl’s race next weekend.

Evans finished fourth in the District 8 meet at Donaldson West Side Park in Maryville on Saturday, posting a time of 17:34. Barbee was 15th in 18:40. Jackson Ruffcorn-Rowland came in 23rd overall with a time of 19:08. Tristan Michaelis was 32nd in 19:33. Blake Gardner finished 35th in 19:45. Josh Schmitz placed 44th in 20:20 and Josh Stevenson came in 52nd place in 20:54.

It will be the second trip to state for Evans, who finished 53rd in last year’s race.

The individual champion was Sean Bryant of St. Pius X with a time of 17:11.

As a team, the Dragons finished in fourth place with 103 points. St. Pius X won the district title with 48 points followed by Chillicothe with 58 and Smithville with 92.

In the girl’s race, Jackson came in sixth place overall with a time of 21:57. Terhune was 12th in 22:38 and Robinson finished 13th in 22:43.

Mira Bannwarth of Smithville was the winner of the race in 20:25.

Smithville won the team title with 17 points followed by Savannah with 47.

The MSHSAA state championships will be held at the Oak Hills Golf Center in Jefferson City. The Class 3 boy’s race starts at 11:25 a.m. while the Class 3 girl’s race begins at 12:25 p.m.
