Dragons sending 10 wrestlers to state

The Cameron Dragons will be well represented at the MSHSAA state wrestling championship next week with ten wrestlers qualifying for the Class 2 tournament in Columbia.

CHS had one individual champion and four wrestlers finish in second place at the District 4 tournament at Excelsior Springs Saturday.

The Dragons finished in third place in the team competition with 178.5 points. Smithville came in first with 231 points followed by Oak Grove with 188.

State qualifiers for Cameron include Levi Marlay (285), who defeated Jacob Bohlken of Smithville in overtime, 3-1, to capture the district title. Coming in second place was Justin Gans (126), Kyle Anderson (170), Caleb Shanks (182), and Tyler Gerber (195). Placing third was Ty Pratt (106) and Dawson Cox (160). Finishing in fourth was Chase Foreman (113), Steven Walser (138), and Colby Gerber (220).

Also competing at the district meet was Sawyer Day (120) and Josh Stevenson (132).

The state championship will be held Feb. 18-20 at Mizzou Arena.
