Evans leads Dragons to fourth place finish at MEC cross country meet

Senior Sam Evans came in second place and the Cameron Dragons took fourth place at the MEC cross country meet in Chillicothe Thursday.

Evans finished with a time of 17:06, 32 seconds behind individual champion Jack Hausman of Bishop LeBlond.

The Dragons scored 85 points. Bishop LeBlond won the team title with 55 points. Chillicothe was second with 63 and Smithville took third with 67.

Jacob Barbee was ninth for CHS in 18:06. Jackson Ruffcorn-Rowland came in 23rd in 18:53. Blake Gardner finished 28th in 19:23. Josh McGilton was 33rd in 19:48 and Josh Schmitz came in 34th in 20:04.

In the girl’s race, Nicole Jackson finished in seventh place in 21:38. Kenzie Terhune was 11th in 22:18 and Abigail Robinson came in 14th place in 22:47.

Mira Bannwarth of Smithville won the race in 20:00.8 and the Warriors claimed the team title, scoring 21 points. Savannah came in second with 35.

In the junior varsity boy’s race, Alec Walser finished in ninth place in 20:48. Colton Pickerell was 17th in 22:08 and Josh McMullen came in 25th in 24:44.

The cross country teams will be idle until Oct. 31 when they go to Maryville for the Class 3 District 8 meet.
