Hornets blank Dragons
Kyle Ross ran for two touchdowns and the Chillicothe Hornets defeated the Cameron Dragons, 33-0, in the Dragons football home opener Friday night at Dave Goodwin Field.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Hornets scored their first touchdown when QB Cade Snyder threw an 11-yard pass to Tyler Garcia to complete a 65-yard drive. Jack Willard added the extra point for a 7-0 lead with 8:35 left in the half and that would be the halftime score.
Following a Cameron punt on their first possession of the third quarter, Ross scored his first touchdown on a five-yard run with 2:28 to play to cap a 48-yard drive. The two-point conversion attempt failed.
Chillicothe made it 19-0 when Mason Hayward ran 61 yards for a score on the last play of the third quarter.
Ross scored on a 16-yard run early in the fourth quarter and Aaron Baker went into the end zone on a one-yard run with six seconds remaining in the game to complete the scoring.
The Dragons fall to 0-2 in the MEC and 1-3 overall while Chillicothe improves to 1-1 in the league and 3-1 overall.
Cameron heads to Maryville next week.
