Cameron’s Hannah Robinson searches for an opportunity during the Lady Dragons’ 34-24 win over Excelsior Springs

Lady Dragons approach Husker Classic with 1-1 record

The Lady Dragons basketball team will undertake the Husker Classic Tournament after splitting their first two games, with a loss to Macon and an at-home victory over Excelsior Springs.

The Lady Dragons traveled to face Macon’s Lady Tigers for their season-opener on Tuesday, March 22. Cameron fell 44-26, despite the efforts of leading scorers Sydney Nichols (14 points) and Emily Spencer (5 points).

“I thought we played pretty good defense in the first half and had a lead in the second quarter.” Head Coach Matt Wenck said. “In the second half, we had some breakdowns on defense and they were able to pull away.”

Cameron evened out their record during the second game of the season on Tuesday, November 29, trouncing Excelsior Springs’ Lady Tigers 34-24 at home. Leading scorers included Olivia Nelson (12 points), Paige Harper (7 points), and Emily Spencer and Sydney Nichols (5 points).

“We were able to play defense for four quarters, holding them to only 24 points.” Wenck said. “We still need to be able to score more points as the season progresses.”

The Lady Dragons traveled to Higginsville last Monday for game one of the week-long Husker Classic.
