Lady Dragons fall to Bishop LeBlond in tourney opener

Bishop LeBlond scored the first nine points of the game and posted a 43-33 win over the Cameron Lady Dragons in the first round of the Cameron Girls Invitational Monday night.

The Golden Eagles led, 9-5, at the end of the first quarter and 25-15 at the half.

The scoring leader for CHS was Eastin McDowell with a season-high 16 points. Sydney Nichols added seven. Hannah Robinson scored four points and Haley Evans, Mallory Bashor and Olivia Nelson had two points apiece.

Sommer Herner scored 12 and Emily Madden added 10 to pace Bishop LeBlond.

In other first round games, Chillicothe defeated Excelsior Springs, 53-22; Savannah posted a 41-20 win over Higginsville; and Lawson was a 43-42 winner against Maryville.

Cameron will face Maryville Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
