Savages use second quarter run to down Dragons

The second quarter proved to be the difference as Savannah defeated the Cameron Dragons, 55-32, in the MEC basketball opener for both teams Thursday night at the CHS gym.

Cameron held a 12-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Savages outscored CHS, 13-2, in the second quarter for a 23-14 halftime advantage and then stretched their lead to 42-22 going into the final period.

Andrew Pratt led all scorers with 15 points. Sam Morrison scored 14, including four three-point baskets, and Dre Dickerson added three for the Dragons.

Blake McGinness and Jake Scheib scored 14 points each for Savannah and Jaxon Steele added ten.

Next up for the Dragons, now 3-8 for the season, is the Bill Burns Classic in Lathrop where they will face Holden in the first round Jan. 12.
